چکیده

• The removal of microplastics by a stormwater treatment train was evaluated. There an abundance in the highway runoff. Rubber and bitumen particles predominated identified microplastics. A gross pollutant trap found to be inefficient at removing Both vegetated sand-only filter efficiently removed Microplastic pose significant threats environment. This study investigated how effective rubber, other (incl. fibers, fragments, paint particles) 100–300 µm >300 size fractions from two trains comprise (GPT) followed either bioretention cell or non-vegetated sand filter. Flow-proportional composite samples were taken runoff, GPT outflow parallel filters during nine rain events determine overall performance, as well performance individual system components. microplastic mainly represented fraction included high ratios rubber (30%) (60%). Overall, stormwater. cells accounted for major share this removal, did not reduce particle concentrations. observation is likely explained fact that have density close water thus sedimentation decreased. inherent weakness system; more specifically, concentrations surface means there can risk release through overflow pits when inflows surpass capacity. Despite some differences, both similar extent.

Bioretention column studies of phosphorus removal from urban stormwater runoff.

This study investigated the effectiveness of bioretention as a stormwater management practice using repetitive bioretention columns for phosphorus removal. Bioretention media, with a higher short-term phosphorus sorption capacity, retained more phosphorus from infiltrating runoff after 3 mg/L phosphorus loading. A surface mulch layer prevented clogging after repetitive total suspended solids in...

Engineered bioretention for removal of nitrate from stormwater runoff.

A bioretention unit is a simple, plant- and soil-based, low-impact treatment and infiltration facility for treating stormwater runoff in developed areas. Nitrate, however, is not attenuated in conventional bioretention facilities. Thus, this study systematically evaluated a reengineered concept of bioretention for nitrate removal via microbial denitrification, which incorporates a continuously ...

Nitrogen removal from urban stormwater runoff through layered bioretention columns.

Bioretention is a low-impact technology used for the treatment of stormwater runoff in developed areas. The fates of mineral nitrogen compounds in two bioretention columns (RP1 and RP2) with different media-layering characteristics were investigated under multiple loadings of simulated urban runoff. The immediate capture of nitrogen was evaluated, with nitrogen transformation reactions that occ...

Field Evaluation of the Nutrient Removal Performance of a Gross Pollutant Trap (GPT) in Australia

Field testing of a proprietary stormwater treatment device (GPT) was undertaken over a one year period at a commercial site located in Sippy Downs, Queensland. The focus of the study was primarily on evaluating the effectiveness of the GPT device in removing pollution in the form of nutrients (Total Suspended Solids, Total Nitrogen, Total Phosphorus) from stormwater runoff. Water quality analys...

Investigating the hydrodynamic performance of a gross pollutant trap

Field studies show that the internal screens in a gross pollutant trap (GPT) are often clogged with organic matter, due to infrequent cleaning. The hydrodynamic performance of a GPT with fully blocked screens was comprehensively investigated under a typical range of onsite operating conditions. Using an acoustic Doppler velocimeter (ADV), velocity profiles across three critical sections of the ...
